In the quiet city of Uzhhorod, Western Ukraine, a local cemetery tells a heartbreaking story. Each month, the rows of fresh graves for fallen soldiers grow longer. For the children left behind, these aren't just statistics—they are the final resting places of their fathers and heroes.

After more than three years of conflict, the trauma has moved deep beneath the surface. Children who have lost parents or fled their homes are living in a state of constant survival. While food and shelter are essential, their emotional and educational needs are often overlooked. How do we help a child find the courage to dream when their world has been torn apart?

A Legendary Connection: From Blues to Books

Last summer, an unexpected bridge was built between the world of music and the frontlines of humanitarian aid. Our project leader met Toru Oki, known in the U.S. as "Mr. Yellow Blues"—a legendary Japanese blues singer who shared the stage with icons like B.B. King and Muddy Waters.

Beyond his music, Mr. Oki is a pioneer in therapy dog training. While bringing actual therapy dogs into a war zone was physically impossible, we found a way to deliver their healing spirit. In collaboration with the Ukrainian Embassy, we translated the inspiring story of "Chirori," a famous therapy dog who brought comfort to thousands, into a beautiful Ukrainian picture book.

Our Mission: Nourishing the Body and the Soul

Terra Renaissance has been on the ground in Ukraine for over three years, providing twice-weekly hot meals to those in need. But we know that hunger isn't just physical. This September, as the new school year began, we launched a special initiative for war orphans and single-mother families in Uzhhorod.

We are providing "Healing Kits" that include:

  • The "Chirori" Picture Book: A tool for psychosocial support to help children process grief and feel unconditional love.

  • Essential School Supplies: Notebooks, pens, and stationery to ensure that their education—and their future—doesn't stop because of the war.

Seeing the children’s eyes light up as they clutched their new books and pens was a reminder that even in the darkest times, a small gesture of care can spark a flame of hope.

Why Your Support is Urgent Today

The number of families grieving in Uzhhorod is increasing at an alarming rate. As winter approaches and the conflict persists, these families feel more isolated than ever. We cannot let these children become a "lost generation." Your donation provides the immediate tools they need for school and the long-term emotional support they need to heal.

Your Impact: Transparency in Giving

Every dollar goes directly toward supporting war-affected families in Western Ukraine.

  • $15 provides a "Healing & Education Kit" (Chirori book + full set of stationery) for one child.

  • $50 funds nutritious ingredients for our biweekly community soup kitchen for a month.

  • $150 provides comprehensive educational support and psychological counseling for a family for three months.
